Looking after myself before, during and after counselling was really important. The counsellor and SARSAS helpline were always reminding me to be kind to myself and to do things to look after myself. I went through phases when I felt so low and desperate that I needed someone to tell me this. I did various things depending on how I felt. Going for a walk always lifted me and yoga was brilliant as it gave me chance to relax and be calm. I also watched a lot of comedy shows on TV as laughing took my mind off things. Everyone’s different, just do something that makes you feel better.
