A Year of Trans, Non-Binary & Intersex (TNBI) Best Practice: with Loving Me
On November 19th, in recognition of Trans Day of Remembrance on the following day, we proudly hosted our fourth online Trans, Non-Binary, and Intersex Best Practice (TNBI) event.
What are the TNBI Best Practice events?
For the past year, we have hosted webinars for people working in sexual violence survivor support organisations across the country to come together and exchange insights and questions; sharing successes around how we best support TNBI clients and staff.
The focus of these events is on looking forward to how we can improve the support we offer to TNBI clients and make our services more inclusive.
Session 4: TNBI clients and domestic abuse
Our theme for this session was ‘Domestic abuse, the family, and the home’, chosen in recognition of the significant challenges TNBI people can face in these spaces. Our discussion also acknowledged the importance of the Trans Day of Remembrance, marked on 20th November, as a time to honour lives lost to violence against the trans community. We were delighted to be joined by a wonderful guest speaker: Moss, CEO of Loving Me. Loving Me is a support and advocacy service for trans and non-binary victim-survivors of domestic violence. It is run by and for trans and non-binary people.
During the session, we heard from Moss about the inspiring work Loving Me does. Moss discussed best practices around supporting trans and non-binary domestic violence survivors and described some of the barriers they may face to accessing support. This was followed by a discussion about how we can best support TNBI clients with complex or difficult relationships with the family and home. We hope this will be particularly helpful for practitioners leading into the new year.
We ended with a collective reflection on the future of the TNBI Best Practice events. After a wonderful year of coming together, we’re looking forward to continuing these sessions in 2025 and beyond.
