Taking the first step: what to expect at our free monthly support sessions

Did you know that SARSAS now offers free, monthly support sessions in Bristol? These sessions are designed to be low-pressure, supportive, and led by your needs. Whether you stay for five minutes or the full session, you’ll be met with warmth, understanding, and respect.

There’s no need to book in advance. You can simply drop in on the day, at a time that suits you between 11am and 1pm.

There is no cost to attend. Our aim is to make support as accessible as possible.

You don’t need to have experienced sexual violence recently. It may have happened months or even many years ago – everyone is welcome.

There is no expectation to share your experience. You won’t be asked questions about what you’ve been through unless you choose to ask or share something yourself.

You’re welcome to pick up leaflets and information about SARSAS services to read in your own time, with no pressure to decide anything on the day.

If you want to know more about the types of support we offer, such as helpline support, counselling, or other services, our team will be there to answer your questions.

Each session includes a relaxing, creative self-care activity, such as decorating a tote bag or painting a plant pot. These activities are optional and designed to be calming and grounding.

If you’d like, our support workers can share simple techniques to help with coping, grounding, or self-care. These can be useful tools to take away and use in everyday life.

Everything is optional. You can take part in as little or as much as you want – whether that’s sitting quietly, chatting with a support worker, joining the activity, or simply collecting information.

Poem

After isn’t After

A little while ago, we received a poem in our inbox. Its words thoughtfully captured a personal experience of sexual violence, and with the author’s permission, we’re sharing it here, knowing it may resonate with many of our followers and supporters.
